Information about Linen |
All linen yarn is line linen and wetspun unless otherwise noted. |
Linen yarn numbers represent LEA notation. One LEA is 300 yards. The yarn number (as a single) represents that number times 300 yards as the amount of yarn in a pound. That is also the number of meters in 500g (half a kilogram). |
Our linen yarns are on CONES, not tubes |
|
HEMP |
500g cone - $30.00Lovely natural color, smooth, strong - just the thing for that rustic look of farmhouse towels. $31.00 for the white bleached cones.
We are now stocking following weights
16/1, 16/3 (bleached only), 16/6
The yarn also refers to a 10Nm designation - this means that the single thread has 10,000 meters per kilogram. 16/1 means 4800 yards per pound. Half a kilogram would have 5,000 neters, So the numbering systems are readily interchangeable.
16/1 is used the same as 16/1 linen - works well with 16/2 or 20/2 cotton, 16/1 or 12/1 linen. If used carefully or sized would also be suitable for warp. 16/3 is for heavier toweling and runners. 16/3 and 16/6 are use as cordage or for craft projects. |
|
16/2
Ca. 2500 yards on 500g cone. Cone $30.00 natural $31.00 bleach white |
16/2 is a substitute for 16/2 or 8/1 linen - works well with 8/2, 10/2 or 12/2 cotton, 8/1 or 16/2 linen, or 8/2 cottolin. |
